Which building should we select?

The NSW Government requires certain performance standards to be met in buildings and these are discussed at length in Building Appraisal Considerations.

The checklist provided here enable you to achieve a general understanding of some of the impacts of the choices in the buildings you are investigating.

The purpose of this section is to enable you to evaluate overall building attributes, building services generally, Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) issues and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliance. It also allows you to compare a range of buildings in order to make an informed comparison and selection between them.

A simple checklist has been developed as a helpful guide to appraising building fitouts. The checklist is simply a series of issues that should be considered when selecting new premises. It also allows the user to place an importance weighting on item, as well as a score. The overall score is then simply the sum of all the weighted preferences by the individual scores. As a guideline to selecting the relative importance of issues in a sustainable manner a typical importance factor based on international practice is given as a guide. This may be updated in the future when Australian guidelines become established.
