Security System

Many commercial office buildings now require electronic security systems to separate public area from general staff areas and to closely control access into higher security zones. Electronic security systems generally comprise the following functions:

  • Access control;
  • Intruder detection;
  • Duress alarms; and
  • CCTV monitoring.

The design team should aim to minimise the electronic security required by optimising the planning of the physical security measures possible and simple circulation patterns as it will cause less frustration and more reliable security control. The degree of monitoring and control needs to be accessed in terms of the possible risk and the number of regular occupants.
